Day 4 – 16.03.2017

Day four of the “Experience Design” workshop. First point on the agenda for this day was the review of the process of creating product concepts based on former derived patterns. The participants had diverse problems on finding pleasant ideas for proper products. The suggestion for switching pattern analysis and their assignment on the course’s time-table for successional “Experience Design” courses was accepted by the organizers.

Concerning the process of storyfinding for product ideas, most of the students had little issues. Since products were created, creating a story to present the product was quite simple.
Afterwards, the current level of understanding experience design (after these 3 days) was reviewed. Almost none of the students felt completely comfortable with their knowledge about “Experience Design”. The wish for more examples came up.

Next, the students presented their created product ideas. Due to the many different patterns, 20 unique product ideas were presented. For example a contact lense for waiters to visualize the former choices of their guests in the restaurant.

These product ideas were reviewed in groups of four participants each. After the presentation of these reviews, the participants of the workshop had individually to decide for their most preferred product to build a prototype of. Finding groups of five members each for the most preferred products was quite difficult. But finally five products became the projects for the rest of the course:

  • A garbage can, which should help to seperate garbage and thus help to protect nature
  • An escalator-system to help people understand and follow the rule of “walk on the left, stay on the right”
  • A small gadget to mark upcoming meetings with friends more important if needed
  • A visualization of estimretated times for each purchase in a queue
  • A box-system for random chats in big cities to gain quick information by others, or just having nice conversations on demand

The task for the next day was to draw a storyboard for the individually assigned product idea.
